Woo To See You Boutique

I had an amazing time at this quaint little boutique shop in the heart of Yaletown.

A big thank you to @city_minto for introducing me to her friend who owns Woo to See You Boutique, I definitely did not go home empty handed!

I picked up a couple of items to add to my winter wardrobe. I cannot ever have enough sweaters and @woo2cu they have a pretty amazing selection of cozy sweaters to choose from! I ended up with a thick knee-length wool cardigan and bonus it came with a matching scarf! @ingridtvan also convinced me to get the giant blanket scarf to add to my collection! I've been eyeing a large blanket scarf for sometime and I'm glad I found one at @woo2cu. And finally last but not least I got myself a big floppy hat, (its great for being mysterious and suave) I think every girl should own a big floppy hat!

I highly recommend visiting their Instagram @woo2cu and check out their amazing selection. A lot of their pieces are designed by local designers in Vancouver BC and they take great care in curating very unique pieces and hand crafted jewelries.

Also if anyone is interested @woo2cu will be featuring a trunk show by one of their favourite local designer @karayoojewelry at their boutique shop. The Event will be held on Friday November 28th from 12 to 6pm. For more information you can check out their Facebook Page - Click Here!

Happy Shopping!

Shishinori

Shishinori

Japanese Eatery

I finally made it here! I saw so many post of their Parfaits on Instagram that I had to come check it out, but evidently I didn't have a Parfait. T and I ended up having a quick dinner with a promise to return to Shishinori again to try their Parfaits!

He had the Ahi Tuna Combo and I had the Chicken Curry Combo. The combos are served with an Enoki Miso soup and a drink of your choice. Both meals were light and delicious, loved the fresh salad and brown rice. It such a cute little place and they do get quite busy around dinner time! I can't wait to come back and try their Parfaits!

Happy eating folks!

Pho Hong at Fraser

Pho Hong

Its a chilly Saturday afternoon, and I am craving a good bowl of Pho.

One of my favourite places to have Pho. The service might not be spectacular but their Pho is delicious and it hits the spot! The soup base is lighter then other Pho restaurants on Kingsway but its still delicious.

Happy eating!

I am never disappointed at Joe Fortes, whether its a quick lunch or a relaxing dinner or just happy hour at their oyster bar I always have an amazing time. Their food is delicious and their service is spectacular.

Until next time Joe Fortes!

Gyoza Bar + Ramen

Gyoza Bar + Ramen

Sunday Birthday lunch at Gyoza Bar was some what successful. We were a party of 10 and they were very accommodating and was able to sit us very quickly once our whole party has arrived.

I was super excited for this restaurant to open because its close to my office and it's something different for the area. I personally try not to go to restaurants that are newly open because the front of house and kitchen needs a few practice rounds before they get it together. So with Gyoza Bar being opened for about a month or so, I was still a little iffy on their quality of food and service.

I ordered their Signature Ramen which had a tomato-saffron seafood broth topped with shellfish, shrimp and scallops - the vegetables in the ramen was kale and broccolini which I thought was genius and very tasty in the rich broth. I particularly liked this tomato-based broth, my only complaint is that it's a touch oily (I have tried other tomato-based broths at different ramen places and I don't remember it being too oily) I personally think that the food at Gyoza Bar was on par, everything tasted as it should.

I love the decor of the place and the open concept of their kitchen (I love all the hipsters that work in the kitchen). In terms of service, you can tell that they are still working out the kinks. The servers are attentive, but I guess when it comes to serving a larger party its easy to miss and mix up an order. I think Gyoza Bar probably needs another month or so before they are able to provide the level of service that you would expect at their sister restaurants.

Maybe I will make another visit for dinner and see how they have improved.

Keep eating folks!

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

I am ecstatic that there is going to be six books in total, but I am also super depressed because now I have to painfully wait for the remaining three books to be written and published! I think I read this too fast...

Now what am I suppose to read?!?

Photastic - Its been awhile folks

Pho Xe Lua 24 Noodle House

金邊火車頭

Hello lovelies.

I know it has been awhile. I have been super busy with work and taken care of my little baby kittens, which means I had no time to explore new restaurants or cook.

But here it is! Pho is my favourite pick-me-up food and its such a delicious comfort food after a long day of work and kitten-sitting. This Pho restaurant is close to where I live and I love coming here to grab a quick dinner. They also have a very delicious Beef Stew and deep fried chicken wings. Great little place in the Cambie Street Corridor.

Anyways back to my baby kittens.

Until next time folks. Bye for now.

Greenhorn Espresso Bar

Greenhorn Espresso Bar
An interesting name with a bit of history behind it.

Quaint little neighbourhood cafe located in the West End. See those love letters hanging?

We were sort of in the area because we stopped by Michael's Flower shop to pick up a bouquet for I's birthday party.

We wanted a quick snack and I remember reading about the Greenhorn Espresso Bar, they were featured in Vancitybuzz, and what intrigued me was that they had love letters on display written by their customers!

I love it when cafes/shops include a bit of their customers into their business because it makes me feel like I belong with them.
T, ordered a ice coffee and I had their latte. We both shared a croissant and a waffle and sat outside enjoying it.

I love everything about the Greenhorn cafe - the inside with its wooden decor and the vases of flowers on the tables, reminds me of a love story in the making.

I would love to visit again and try their lunch menu and the rest of their coffees. It's a perfect little place to sit and chat and catch up with old friends over a good cup of coffee.

“I'd rather take coffee than compliments just now.”

Until next time.

Jitlada Thai

Jitlada Thai

This little Thai restaurant is a hidden gem.

I know I am a little late at posting this review, but better late than never!

We came here on a lovely Thursday night to celebrate one of my favourite co-workers birthday. She really wanted some good Thai food, so A recommended Jitlada Thai located in West Broadway. It's a cozy little restaurant with very charming staff. We were greeted right away and this elegant lady in a beautiful floral dress handed us our menus. We ordered a round of Thai ice tea and Mango juice. I absolutely adore their Thai ice tea! Refreshing and it hit the spot after a long day at work.

We ordered some appetizers to share. The spring rolls and the chicken satay were amazing, highly recommend it. We also ordered their boneless stuffed chicken wings, which were a little unexpected, the flavour was very good, but I personally didn't like the texture, I think if the chicken wing itself was crispy or deep-friend it would have been tastier.

We also had the Tom Yum Goon soup, I liked how they were able to customize the spiciness of the soup, but even though we've chosen a milder version, it was still too spicy for me (I know... I need to work on that) everyone else at the dinner loved it.

For our main course we shared a Pad Thai with shrimp. The lady of the house recommended this and told us that they used tamarind and cane sugar for the sourness of the dish, which for me was a great palette cleanser after the spiciness of the Tom Yum Goon soup.

After sourness in the Pad Thai it made me want to eat more food! Good thing we ordered the Pineapple fried rice, which the Birthday Girl really loved. I just wanted to eat all the pineapples!

The last dish we shared was a Spicy Tofu and Green Bean dish which got gobbled down really fast, because it was delicious with a hint of chilies.

I need to mention the service of Jitlada because it was awesome! Throughout our whole meal the lady of the house gave us impeccable service. I think this was what made our meal so enjoyable, she was attentive to us and her other customers. She greeted everyone like they were old friends of hers and she knew how to make everyone laugh. She talked to us like we've ate at her restaurant many times, which made all of us feel very welcomed. Throughout the whole dinner she had no idea that we were at her restaurant because of P's birthday celebration, but once she found it - she surprised us and P!

The lady of the house surprised us with a beautiful dessert of ice cream and fried bananas - now that was a great ending to our night. The Birthday Girl got to blow out the candles and make her wish.
If you are looking for a good Thai restaurant with delicious food and impeccable service I highly recommend Jitlada Thai Restaurant. I was definitely not disappointed, and I can't wait to go back to try out the rest of their menu!

Until next time.

Have fun in Malaysia P!

Brewery and the Beast

Festival of Meat and Beer

The Brewery and the Beast was a delicious event and a great ending to my weekend. Thanks A for inviting me I will definitely be back next year (and I will remember to bring sunscreen). There were so many amazing restaurants this year! Some of my favourites were Forage, Homer Street Café, Catch122, Alta Bistro, Hawksworth, and Oughtred Coffee & Tea (because they were serving Vietnamese Ice Coffee) there's just too many to name!

I had to come up with a strategy, because there were a lot of meat to try and I only have one stomach.

"A" and I grabbed our beers first, then did a quick circuit of the place and chose the restaurants based on how long the line was. We tried to avoid eating any carbs, but sometimes a little bit of bread helps soak up all the delicious sauces from the meat.

One of a kind culinary experience. This is their second annual event in Vancouver and all the meat and produce are locally sourced, promoting the farms in BC. Their goal is to educate people on consuming local meats and produce, and where they can get it! The participating restaurants and chefs get's a chance to show off their culinary prowess and experiment with different flavours and local ingredients. I highly recommend this event, the barbecues were amazing and the energy of the crowd was electrifying!

Cafe de l'Orangie

Café de l'Orangie

Funny thing - I was browsing through Urbanspoon and then on Yelp for a Japanese restaurant that's close to home. I was craving sushi, but I also wanted pasta too! Oh the dilemma!

So after ten minutes of browsing I came across Café de L'Orangie, which had really good reviews on both Urbanspoon and Yelp, and the plus-side - it was close to home. T and I checked it out and the place was cozy and quite busy for a Tuesday night, lots of families were there.

To satisfy my pasta craving I ordered the Masago de Creamy Spaghetti (Squid, mushroom, asparagus, roe, cream) This pasta was really well executed, I loved the masago, it gave the pasta a very nice texture and the cream sauce didn't feel too heavy and overwhelming.

T also wanted a pasta but he decided to try their Curry with Pork Cutlet. The Pork Cutlet was very crispy, yet still very juicy on the inside. What T and I really liked about this dish was their curry! It looked to me like a veggie curry, I loved how they had diced veggies in the curry sauce. The curry was thicker and had more of a bite to it because of the diced veggies. I could just eat this curry with rice and nothing else all day, it was that good!

And onto dessert! Café de L'Orangie had a very attractive dessert menu. They had an assortment of home-made cakes and pies that changes everyday, brules and Japanese Parfaits.

T and I shared a Zunda Dango Parfait (Rice balls, sweet green bean paste, red bean, ice cream and black sugar sauce). The dessert was a little disappointing, mostly due to the runny ice cream we had, other than that the pairing of flavours was really good. I will definitely be back again to try the rest of their dinner menu and dessert menu!

Until next time Café de l'Orangie

The Fish Shack

The Fish Shack | Hook It & Cook It - Glowbal

Came here after work one day to try their Oysters. They usually have their oysters on special from a certain time of day. It was my first time here, I loved the décor of the place... and that was pretty much it.The service was alright, but I guess it was the server we had because I watched some of the other servers who looked like they were having a pretty good time with their customers.

Our server wasn't very interactive with us, he basically just took our order and delivered the food. Very minimal interaction (I guess some people prefer that) I felt more welcomed by the Hostess then our server. We ordered 2 dozen of their royal Miyagi oysters and the calamari, fish cakes, 2 pounds of clams and mussels. Everything was alright... food was alright... service (our particular server) was alright...
I think I might just stick to my usual places to satisfy my oyster cravings. Would I come back? Maybe. It was my first time at the Fish Shack and I do believe in second chances.
