Fairwood, Brunch Club, Random Chinese Place...

Fairwood for breakfast!

The Brunch Club was quite interesting, they have their own bakery that serves up fresh baked artisan breads and pastries  I absolutely loved their sour dough. Their bruschetta was not stellar, the brie they served it on was cut too thin for my liking because it made the brie too soggy with the tomato topping sitting on top of it. Their eggs Benedict is awesome and I do recommend it! Would I go back? Maybe not...

Now this place... located near the red light district was quite interesting. The food reminds me of my mama's cooking, very homey and MSG free. Everyone in there was smoking and every other word out of their mouths was a swear word. I thought it was very entertaining minus the second smoke of course... I think this is a place I will be taking E to because I know she will get a kick out of it. I took one of their menus, now I am going to translate it into English, so I know what to order next time with E!

Toodles for now!

Stuffed Pancake Cube!

So the last time I was in Hong Kong I had an obsession with Hui Lau Shan. I absolutely adored their mango desserts, each bowl I ordered was piled high with chunks of mangoes. So I was super excited to gorge myself at Hui Lau Shan again, but to my disappointment it didn't taste the same! Maybe I am being delusional and maybe its been 6 years and my memory is crap, but I swear it tasted watered-down and the mango chunks shrunk. So all in all, it was a disappointment. But I will go back and try their other desserts just to satisfy my curiosity, because maybe not all Hui Lau Shan's are the same.

T and I were in the TST area and we stumbled into the Sweet Dynasty where they serve an array of Chinese desserts, dim sum and Shanghainese (I think... based on the pictures) cuisine. We ordered sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, swallow nest egg tarts, and a plate of deep fried sticky pastry with a salty meaty filling inside (that's the best way I can describe it). The dim sum variety we ordered is pretty much standard stuff you can find at dim sum places in Vancouver, maybe not so much the swallow nest egg tarts, talking about the egg tarts it was kind of disappointing, the crusts tasted very mushy... like it has been sitting out for sometime. The rest of the dim sum was mediocre nothing amazing.

But there is a saving grace to this whole meal! The stuffed pancake filled with whipped cream and mango was heaven on earth! I have had this dessert the last time I was in Hong Kong and I quickly fell in love with the idea, its almost like a stuffed crepe! I will definitely go back to Sweet Dynasty, not for their dim sum BUT for their stuffed pancake!

So I guess the whole day wasn't a total disappointment.

Congrats W & K!!

T and I attended a beautiful wedding in Yuen Long, congratulations Wyman and Kenny! We wish you the best in life and have an awesome Honeymoon!!!

HK munchies!

Breakfast at Tsui Wah Restaurant in Causeway Bay area.

Meow...

And lunch is served! Had a bowl of noodles at Wing Kee located in Causeway Bay. Top left corner, that bowl consists of beef brisket, fish balls and watercress and round noodles. Bottom left is a bowl full of pork's blood pudding, beef brisket, watercress and rice noodles drenched in a saucy soup.

I know I have been eating around Causeway Bay a lot but there is just so many restaurants to explore in just one area!

Breakfast in Hong Kong

Hello Lady's and Gent's, I am in Hong Kong and this is what I had for breakfast at 3am and 7am!

I am a huge fan of Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, and once we got settled into our apartment T and I went looking for a hot cup of HK Milk Tea. Since it was nearly 3am we went to Tsui Wah Restaurant located in Causeway Bay which is like a 5 minute walk from our apartment and its opened 24 hours.

Tsui Wah Restaurant was packed... duh! The cup of HK Milk Tea woke me up and the Butter Condensed Toast hit the spot. I was ready for a  cat nap.

After the power nap, we had our 7am breakfast at Wah Sing Restaurant, also located in Causeway Bay.

The 7am breakfast sure got our day going and our jet-lag put on-hold. We had quite a bit of errands to run to get set up for our 3 month stay in Hong Kong.

We had to set up our cell phones, get the suit and dress dry-cleaned for a wedding this Saturday. T had to go get a hair cut and we had to make an IKEA run to get some bedding and pillows.

Oh boy, And we accomplished all of the above by lunch time! I definitely need to get with the HK hours.

And this is what we had for lunch... I promise my next food post would be a little bit more exciting. Until then, if you're in Hong Kong and know some great eats feel free to message me and I will join you!

Meet Tux

T has been hanging out in Vanderhoof for the past month. He sort of adopted this tuxedo Manx that roams around the property. Her name is Tux and shes one wild lady who just had a litter of kittens and T has been feeding her regularly... and he's trying to tame her too. Hopefully she decides to hang around because the winter up in Vanderhoof could get pretty harsh.

She's one beautiful lady.

Halloween!

So every year I keep telling myself that I will make an awesome costume for Halloween, but ever year I never get around to making anything, and this year was no exception. I told E that I was going to make this crazy looking faery costume but I ended up with a Hipster Superwoman "costume" instead. Ho Hum.

E on the other hand, made this awesome Assassin Creed costume from scratch... well she watched a lot of YouTube and some trial and error with the sewing machine. Ta Da.

We stocked up on discounted Halloween Candy on November 1st. Yay!
